Milner Breaks Neymar & Rooney Assists Record

James Milner provided another social media gem on Wednesday after he learned that he had broken a Champions League assists record.

The Liverpool midfielder turned in a fine performance as the Reds smashed Roma 5-2 at Anfield to put them in the driving seat of their semi-final tie.

And with Milner setting up Roberto Firmino's second goal as he delivered the second-half corner that was headed home by the Brazilian, he put his name in Champions League history.

That set-piece was the former England midfielder's ninth assist of Liverpool's Champions League campaign - and no player has ever managed that many in a single season.

The best previous Champions League assists totals over a full season were achieved by Neymar (eight in 2016-17) and Wayne Rooney (eight in 2013-14).

He wrote on Twitter in response to UEFA confirming the record: "Funny that - I don't like anyone assisting me with the dishes.
